Saavik Ford, an astronomer and professor at the City University of New York, was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2017. Her symptoms completely changed her everyday life and for months, she was too ill to work. To regain her strength and control over her health, she tried running, something she hadn't done since high school, and fell in love with the sport again. Before long, she decided to run the NYC Marathon for Team IBDKids, a charity supporting children with her condition. Overcoming a marathon of flare-ups, a colonoscopy and a brutally hot summer of training, her moonshot of a goal became one giant leap of victory against IBD.
