In 2016, Mary Johnson, a 5th grade writing and English teacher, sustained a traumatic injury resulting in the loss of her leg and two fingers on her right hand. As an avid runner and coach at her school this was a devastating setback, but she would not be deterred for long. While receiving rehab in New York City, Mary discovered Achilles International and met other amputees, many of whom were dedicated runners and triathletes. With their guidance and friendship, Mary was able to slowly but surely re-learn how to run with a new leg, and continues to strive for new goals and cross finish lines today.
